Sweet Corn
Sweet corn is often referred to as Corn of
the Cob. The scientific name for sweet corn is Zea mays
saccharata. Some people love eating sweet con in the cob,
whereas others prefer the less messy way of eating, off the
cob. There are many types of sweet corn.
You can buy fresh sweet corn on the cob with
leaves on them at your local grocery stores when they are in
season. Otherwise, you can always buy them prepackaged or in
tins. Although you can buy sweet corn all year round, they are
actually seasonal.
Why are sweet corn sweet?
The sugar content of sweet corn remain in
the corn without breaking down into starch. This is why sweet
corn remains sweet for a long time. Some types of sweet corn
are grown to have more sugar content so they are even sweeter
than an average sweet corn.
